Newgrange in Ireland

History, Ireland is an ancient country with human settlement ranging back to as early as 10500BC.

You could be forgiven for believing that Egypt has the oldest structures in the world, but you would be wrong. Newgrange in County Meath, pictured above, dates back to 3000BC making it around 400 years older then the Pyramids and 1000 years older than Stonehenge and this is not the only structure in Ireland that dates back this far.

Unlike many other parts of Europe Ireland was never conquered by the Romans so many of it's ancient sites still survive today.

Ireland's earliest Towns were established by the Vikings making them ancient by modern standards, dating back to around 800AD. These towns feature unique designs with narrow winding streets which made them more difficult to invade.

Many of these earlier towns have preserved much of the original structures and designs leading to an interesting combination of ancient and the modern.

Ireland is an absolute treasure trove of history and historical sites making it a must visit venue for any History Enthusiast. Ireland also lays claim to having the oldest Pub in the World, Sean's Bar in Athlone apparently opened in 900AD, making it over 1100 years old.

Cliffs of Moher

Natural Beauty, Ireland is truly blessed with some breathtaking natural scenery.

Ireland is not known as The Emerald Isle for nothing, yes, Ireland may get a lot of rain, but the upside of this is the greenery. Come summer Ireland literally explodes in a kaleidescope of greens, every shade of green you can imagine and more, as far as the eye can see. Even in winter it's still green.

The Causeway Coast drive was recently voted as the most scenic, beautiful drive in the world. Streching from Belfast to (London)Derry taking in sights like The Giants Causeway and the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge.

The west coast offers the incredible Cliffs of Moher attracting over a million visitors a year a part of the Wild Atlantic Way, a 2500km defined coastal touring route taking in some of Irelands most dramatic landscapes.
